VET BLUELINERS TO TAKE PRESSURE OFF PROSPECTS
The Blackhawks now have an intriguing and lengthy list of defense prospects.
After selecting Belarusian blueliner Artyom Levshunov with the second overall pick in the 2024 NHL draft, Chicago looks primed to start incorporating young rearguards into the lineup in the coming seasons. That said, it appears that the 'Hawks will take a slow approach with developing not only Levshunov (who is expected to begin 2024-25 in the American Hockey League) but also D prospects such as Sam Rinzel, Louis Crevier, Ethan Del Mastro, Nolan Allan and others. That is why grizzled veterans Alec Martinez and T.J. Brodie were acquired as unrestricted free agents over the summer.
The hope is that those two newcomers, along with fellow veterans Seth Jones and Connor Murphy, can buy the youngsters a little more time.
