CAN THE CAPS AVOID A BIG COMEDOWN IN 2024-25?

At the end of the day, making the playoffs is the main objective for most NHL franchises.


To that end, the Capitals were successful last campaign in Spencer Carbery's first year behind the bench. However, many hockey fans and observers felt Washington was a bit fortunate to reach the postseason. After all, the Capitals surrendered 37 more goals than they scored themselves in 2023-24. Brian MacLellan, who moved from GM to president of hockey operations this summer, and new GM Chris Patrick likely agreed with the majority of pundits. Washington added forwards Pierre-Luc Dubois, Andrew Mangiapane, Brandon Duhaime and Taylor Raddysh, defensemen Matt Roy and Jakob Chychrun, and goaltender Logan Thompson this off-season.


If regression is inevitable, at least the Caps are going to go down fighting.
