Lou Lamoriello has been the GM of the Islanders since 2018.


During that time, he has hired three coaches: Barry Trotz, Lane Lambert and Patrick Roy. There has been little roster turnover during this era, largely because of long-term contracts. Lamoriello prefers roster stability, so when things are not working, his instinct is to change coaches. The hope for 2024-25 is that Roy can help bring the team back to where they were during Lamoriello's first three seasons at the helm; the Islanders won at least one round of the Stanley Cup playoffs each year, and lost to Tampa Bay two years in a row in the Eastern Conference Final. Since then, the Isles have not qualified for the playoffs and lost in round 1 two years running.


The 2025-26 campaign could be Lamoriello's last if things do not pan out.
