NO LONGER ''ALL IN,'' CAN THE 'CANES CONTEND?
Sometimes, ''going for it'' does not yield the expected results. Now what?
During most of the (Carolina owner) Tom Dundon era, the Hurricanes have been an efficient, well-oiled, well-run and at times frugal operation. In many ways, they have set a standard of managing the salary cap and maintaining regular-season success that is the envy of most NHL franchises. However, the postseason has been another matter. In '23-24, Carolina broke from tradition and traded away players, picks and prospects for proven offensive forwards Jake Guentzel and Evgeny Kuznetsov–two former Stanley Cup winners. Unfortunately, the 'Canes were knocked out in round 2 by the New York Rangers last spring, and (to add insult to injury) now both Guentzel and Kuznetsov are gone.
